News space

Fellow Intranet provides the option to create a dedicated news space or multiple news spaces within your intranet. While news can be posted in any space, it's often a smart choice to create a specific news space to organize and manage news content more effectively. A dedicated news space ensures that users can easily find and explore the news they are looking for.

Benefits of a News Space

With a news space, you can:

  • Organize news articles in a structured and clear manner.
  • Ensure that important news is easily accessible to members.
  • Provide a central location for all news updates, making it simpler for participants to stay informed.

Creating Categories for News

It’s highly recommended to create categories to organize the news. This allows you to group news content in specific sections, such as:

  • HR News
  • IT News
  • Communications News

Creating specific categories helps to:

  • Separate news types: For example, you can distinguish between "nice to know" news and "need to know" news, ensuring that critical information gets the attention it deserves.
  • Customize news presentation: By using categories, you can display news differently across the platform. For instance:
    • New colleagues can be showcased in a slider.
    • Job listings can be displayed in a structured list format.
    • Company updates can be shown in a standard newsfeed.

Here's how to create categories for your news:

  1. Go to Setup: Categories can be created by webmasters. Navigate to Setup > Categories.
  2. Add New Category: In the categories section, click on Add Category to create new categories that fit your organization’s needs (e.g., HR News, IT Updates, Company Announcements).
  3. Define Spaces and Item Types: When creating a category, you can specify which space or item type the category applies to. This ensures that the category is only available for the relevant content or spaces.
  4. Save the Category: Once you’ve set the category name and assigned it to the appropriate space or content type, save your changes.

Using Widgets for News Display

Once you have created categories, you can also set up news widgets for each category. This way, users can see relevant news in the format that best suits the content, such as sliders, lists, or feeds.

By creating a dedicated news space and organizing content with categories, you provide a clear, structured, and engaging way for users to access and engage with news on your intranet. This setup allows for flexibility in how different types of news are presented, ensuring an optimal user experience.
